Termites
A mature subterranean termite colony can consist of anywhere between 60,000 and two million workers. Subterranean termite colonies can grow very quickly and oftentimes years have gone by before a homeowner even suspects they may have termites. This is one of the reasons they are able to cause significant damage to properties. Due to how rapid termite colonies can grow, scheduling annual termite inspections and routine treatments are of high priority in preventing infestations.
Protect real estate investments by recognizing the signs of a termite infestation. If there is evidence of softwood that sounds hollow when it’s tapped, darkened or blistering of wood structures, discarded wings near doors or on windowsills, uneven or bubbling paint, or small piles of feces that resemble sawdust near a termite’s nest there may be an infestation brewing.
To help prevent termites from attacking structures
- Keep water from accumulating at the foundation.
- Reduce the humidity in crawl spaces by installing a ventilation system.
- Seal cracks and crevices around the foundation.
- Make sure wood isn’t in contact with any soil.
